Cambridge Humanities Research Grants Scheme
The Cambridge Humanities Research Grant Scheme (CHRGS) is administered via the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and has operated successfully from 2011-2014. It was formed to enable researchers in the Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences to undertake research including pilot or experimental work, to develop a research idea, or in preparation for larger-scale activities or networks.
With effect from Lent Term 2015, the former Newton Trust Small Grants Scheme is being incorporated into the CHRGS with applications invited in a single call through the CHRGS in one of three tiers:
Small grants (former Newton Trust scheme) |
Max £1500 |
Short-term support for initial/experimental research Costs of expediting a research output This tier will continue to focus on short-term support for initial/experimental research, or to expedite a research output, with the expectation that this will primarily involve provision of junior-level research assistance. Costs relating to (i) conferences and (ii) costs associated with publishing will not be considered More information about the scheme including eligibility and criteria, can be found at: Cambridge Humanities Research Grants scheme | Arts Humanities and Social Sciences Research |
Research grants (standard CHRGS) |
£1,000-20,000 |
General research grants supporting the CHRGS criteria |
Exchange grants |
Match-funding of between £1,000-20,000 |
Supporting mutual exchange with institutions affiliated to Paris Sciences et Lettres |
The Small Grants tier will continue to focus on short-term support for initial/experimental research, or to expedite a research output, with the expectation that this will primarily involve provision of junior-level research assistance. Costs relating to (i) conferences and (ii) costs associated with publishing will not be considered (costs relating to preparation of outputs for publication remain eligible).
Details and closing dates are announced up to twice each year (recently with deadlines at the end of September and end of February) and applications may be made via this link: CHRG online application form
